Reflective Journal

I believe that by doing my primary research as in going to New York and finding my own building this has helped my projects become more personal, as I have found through out the year when it comes to my design work I am generally more visually inspired, especially when in a new environment especially when researching.

When I first started my drawing I was more eager to sit down and draw as delicately which within the first project, and by visiting exhibitions I felt more inspired as opposed to researching and finding new things on paper. I was please with the final outcomes for this project, I feel I have achieved the point I wanted with my lighting prints making them layered to illustrate my building yet been quite open, air and girly to illustrate the building at its present point which is a make up shop.

Here's some unedited photos of what my lampshades look like before I had chance edit them with CAD:

By creating visual mock ups in person I found that this gave me a better idea of where my products could be used, to give my final pieces a more product effective market ideas within my cad file, after struggling to find a suitable way to stiffen my fabric this was much easier, I found my most successful method of stiffen fabric was to laminate them after I didn't want to starch my print fabrics with devore on as I was worried it may mark the fabrics.

Completion- Brick by Brick Reflective Journal.

We have just completed our final Design project for our second year. The project titled brick by brick, This was based on a building I choose when visiting New York for inspiration, my project concept was based on how my building the Charles Scribner building was unlike any of the surrounding buildings on 5th avenue and how it had been layered up and changed so the interior fits the area it is established in yet the exterior was the same as it was when it housed the books of Mr Scribner.

My building is really light, open so the main focus of my collection was to create lighting fixtures, aswell as chair covers and wallpapers were also from my collection.

Reflective journal - Brick by Brick project.

Through out this project we are been asked to design for a building we have come across or will come across. As for many of us will be visiting New York next week. On the 8th of feb.

After researching into building I may come across my initial thoughts are to design something broad way inspired, but am leaving final decision to when I have experienced New York, as I a, aware I am a more visually stimulated person I believe I will find more exciting concepts while in New York.

I have used the past weeks to develop my time in the print workshop learning new techniques, I feel that this is a better way for me to do it personally as I learn better when I have time to repeat the process and better myself, by repeating something several times I learn better this way.

New brief/ hand in.

After handing in a second practical projest I feel that I am finally grasping a better of the print industry.
My research through out this project has helped me realise once again that research is the key to all of my work, and the more research the better the outcome.
I felt that my Cad skills have improved specifically through out this project, within my use of visualisations, as I realised there are a variety of ways to do them.

We were given our latest brief which is a 12 week project where we are selecting a design idea to go into a building of our choice. I feel this is a chance to improve on my time mangement in the earlier stages of my projects as I feel this is something I need to work on.

Through out my latest design process. Reflective Journal Entry.

Through out my current project,
I have learnt that research helps within all areas of your work, for example within my current design project for Turner Bianca the bedding company.
I have looked at trends from all varieties and areas of the market from Children's bedding, living rooms and kitchen ware to men's wear and adult bedding as well as looking at illustrators, screen printers and textile designers.
By doing this it has helped me develop my work in a variety of different ways and helped me strive to create a unique and different collection.
I have found the research part of my project the most interesting, and feel I sometimes get caught up in going to far fetched within my research, and then find it hard to explain my ideas.
This is something I need to work on.

Show Room- Turner Bianca

Reflective journal - Breakfast in bed.

I have come up with a synopois for my current, collection relating to the trend British Eccentric set by Turner Bianca.
My synopis derives from the name of british eccentric, my concept started by looking into traditional english tearooms, how ever I became quickly became bored of the idea of drawing floral prints on tea cups and looking at floral prints.I became more interested in the objects inside a tea room, specifically cutlery and doyleys, and playing with the idea that of these objects been made up of patterns which would be orignal used as decoration or as table coverings. After researching interior trend I found that checks and tartans are quite on trend. I am currently making prints with the items used within the tearoom/kitchen to create my own tartan and checks.
My collection is based on the idea that in modern days we think as it as a luxury to have breakfast in bed, however in the past you were considered privilged to have tohe opportunity to dine in a tea room.
My collections colours will be made up of British blues, egg yoke yellow, rose tea pink, and a various of reds I have yet to think of names for.
